A well known Argentinean photographer, Horacio Coppola, passed away yesterday, he was 105 years old. He already was a pro photographer when Fritz Henle ( Mr. Rollei) introduced him to the Bauhaus where Coppola learnt the Bauhaus principles with Walter Peterhans. He met the photographer Grete Stern there (Bob Shell edited an article about Grete Stern in Shutterbug), they went to Paris when the nazis closed the Bauhaus and married in London afterwards. Horacio Coppola was a friend of Marc Chagall and he took excellent photographs about this painter.Coppola did for Cahiers d'Art the book "L'Art de la Mesopotamie", photographing complete collections in the British Museum and the Louvre. Grete and Coppola finally came to Argentina (it was a return for Coppola) where both became famous photographers. Coppola photographed Buenos Aires city mainly, he was a Leica photographer, he used other cameras like the Rolleiflex sometimes, but the Leica was his workhorse. Horacio Coppola received the " Buenos Aires illustrious citizen" significant distinction some years ago, these two links have some samples about Coppola's work: http://www.elangelcaido.org/fotografos/hcoppola/hcoppola01.html http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150968604964207.444624.35416449206&type=1&l=0b800e94c9 Carlos . --- Rollei List - Post to rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Subscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'subscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Unsubscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Online, searchable archives are available at //www.freelists.org/archives/rollei_list
