Why not? I have loaded my M3 many a time in a dark venue and never had a problem. It is bullet proof. The Neverload kit is quite finicky and even the inbuilt type used on the M4 and later cameras is not terribly reliable. Or, as a Leica pro, now dead, once noted to me, "the loading on an M4 teaches you soon to look at the dot on the rewind film to make certain that the film is advancing", certainly sage advice!
