Jeff,

I agree with Slobodan's not using ball heads with LF. I have a Toyo 45A I
use on an old Gitzo Rational No.3. I have a QR clamp and plate by Really
Right Stuff to attach the camera to the head. I feel it's easier to zero
out a larger camera with a two axis head like the Gitzo than with a ball
head. I use a ball head with my TLR.

Might also mention that a monorail camera like the Sinar you picked up (what
a steal) is easily balanced on the head depending on lens, etc - just shift
the whole monorail forwards or backwards on the center. Field cameras often
come with two tripod mounting positions to balance the camera.

I use a Bogen 3297 4x4" plate on a 3039 head.
The Arca plate is a bit small to accommodate the Sinar's rail clamp.
Mine came with an Arca plate mounted on it.
I had a good laugh when I saw it, and promptly took it off.
When it comes to view cameras, I've never been comfortable with
ballheads.
On the other hand, I don't mind a ball head with a TLR or a 6000 body.
