My idea of a wide-angle lens is my Questar 700! I rarely shoot a lens shorter than 5cm/50mm and, when I do, it is probably going to be a 2.8/35 or 4.5/21 Zeiss Biogon or a 5.6/20 Russar. No, I do not use lens hoods on these puppies.
If I want pocket-portability, I pick up my Leica IIIc with its collapsible 2/5cm Summitar or my Rollei 35S and, yes, I use lenshoods on both.
