*Carl Zeiss * Camera Lens News * Issue No. 41 ** December 2011 Dear
Mr. G.,

This issue of the Camera Lens Newsletter is all about water. This element
has always fascinated photographers, whether they have used water as a
creative element – for example by composing an image with moving water,
with reflections, or with the play of light on the water's surface – or
whether water is simply the subject.

The Cape Region of South Africa offers stunning scenery to explore all the
facets of water. Photographer Martin Zimelka, who grew up in the region,
reveals both the subtle and powerful sides of water in his work. You can
also read an interview with American Raymond Larose in which he talks about
the "magical moments" that water has created for him.

This issue also includes an extensive article about water photography, with
many detailed tips and tricks, including how to get great results by using
POL filters. You will also find an article about the new Distagon T* 2/25
lens. Finally, we continue our series on lens names: in this issue, you
will learn about the history and development of the Hologon, Biogon and
Distagon lenses.

Here you will find all contributions on this key
topic<http://blogs.zeiss.com/photo/en/?cat=43>.

We published these and further interesting articles during the last 20
weeks in our Camera Lens Blog <http://blogs.zeiss.com/photo/en/>.

For easy print out of our blog articles we have integrated a print out
function.

Issues before the start of the blog are available as PDF in our
archive<http://blogs.zeiss.com/photo/en/?page_id=18>.

*Next key topic: Expedition and action photography*
Our next focus theme, which will run from January until March 2012, will be
about the challenges of difficult shooting situations – for example a
safari or mountain climbing – and the requirements for the photography
equipment. Visit our Camera Lens Blog <http://blogs.zeiss.com/photo/en/>!

Happy reading!

 The sea in me

Water. For photographers who want to capture this element at its best,
South Africa's Cape region offers the perfect backdrop. And luckily for
Martin Zimelka, it is here, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet, that
he calls home. Regardless of whether the sea is active or calm or the motif
is a small bay or long coastline, Zimelka's images depict water in all its
manifest forms.

Tips and tricks for photographing water

Water as one of the primordial elements has been a constant source of
fascination for the human imagination, and offers a host of stunning images
for photographers. The quietness of a lake in the mountains, reflecting the
beauty of its pristine natural environment, forms a fascinating contrast to
the swift flow of a brook running through the forest undergrowth, for
example.

 At home by the water

It was through his father that Raymond Larose, at age 13, discovered his
love for photography and nature. Since then, he has been fascinated by
water and his home state of New Hampshire (USA) offers a stunning backdrop.
Larose, 40, likes working without a flash, strobes and reflectors.
