From: Jan.Decher@xxxxxxx >My "Rollex Patent" back has an arrow on the take-up compartment that tells me >to turn counterclockwise and it makes sense when your see how the film has to >run through it against its natural curl. I might put pictures on my Camera >Notes Blog when I get the film back. My Rollex backs have the same arrow, but I don't see how turning the key counterclockwise makes sense. The Balda roll-back is based on the same principle as the Rollex, but the winding knob should be turned clockwise (it can't turn counterclockwise anyway). >Good idea to clean the groundglass, if I can figure out how to get it out of >the frame in one piece. If you have the original Voigtländer GG back, you just use your thumbs to carefully push the glass through the open slot. You might need to widen the slot a little with a screwdriver. Here's the manual: http://www.cameramanuals.org/voigtlander_pdf/voigtlander_avus.pdf >Would make more sense to etch the 6x9 frame onto the groundglass. Or mark the 6x9 frame with a pencil on the matte side (You can always erase the pencil marks later). When you have done that you can use electricians tape to make a frame on the glossy side if you want. >I am not up to grinding my own screens but I am wondering if anybody sells >opaque glass or even fresnel material for less of a premium than Maxwell and >Beattie etc. Bill Maxwel said however, the challenge was that his delicate >bright screens need a protective cover glass that is too thick for my back... If you don't modify the GG back you can only use thin focusing screens. The Voigtländer groundglass is 1,3 mm thick and made of the same glass material as plates. The last Avus I bought was an early one with a smaller shutter and a 6,3 Voigtar. I swapped the lens for a Steinheil Orthostigmat 6,8/13,5 cm in a Compur (size "0" I think) and was impressed. A sharp and contrasty little lens.It would be interesting to find the Skopar 1:4,5 4 1/8" (105mm) wideangle or even the bulkier Tele-Dynar F/6.3 No. 3 (no focal length provided) mentioned in the Avus manual. Not sure though how easy they would be to exchange against the retrofit 4.5/13.5 cm Tessar on my camera. Oh, you've already read the manual. There are no Skopar wide angle. They mean if you have an Avus with a Skopar 1:4,5 4 1/8", it means a 6,5 x 9 Avus - and then you can use the Tele-Dynar F6,3 No. 2. The Tele-Dynar No. 2 fits the smaller shutter of the 105 mm Skopar. The No. 3 fits the 9x12 shutter. (Compur 1, I believe). /Patric _________________________________________________________________ Med Windows Live kan du ordna, redigera och dela med dig av dina foton. http://www.microsoft.com/sverige/windows/windowslive/products/photo-gallery-edit.aspx
