Marc:
There is a difference between a camera with _TTL metering_ in
1964 and a camera with _automatic TTL exposure_ in 1965, first existed
the TTL metering, afterward the automatic exposure based on the TTL
metering. The 1964 Asahi Pentax Spomatic was among the firsts
cameras with TTL metering, but I clarify it was not the very first
using this metering system, the very first was the Topcon RE Super
made by Tokio Optical Co. introduced in the 1962 Photokina and prodced
from 1963 (a Japanese camera anyway), this is an original article
appeared in Pop Photography in 1964, written by Fred Springer-Miller(
among several other references):

BTW, thanks to the 1954 Asahiflex IIB with the instant return mirror
SLRs cameras had success leaving a secondary place for the RF cameras.
The Asahiflex IIB was the first camera with instant return mirror to
have commercial success. A little Hungarian company, Gamma, produced
800 Duflex cameras in 1947, they had instant return mirror and
automatic aperture, but most of these cameras were sold within Hungary
only and the production had not continuity
Some Japanese companies thought that Leica M3 features like the bright
viewfinder were very expensive and difficult to copy and then decided
to advance with the SLR cameras.
