Lantern slides (and their projectors) were used for a long time in Masonic lodges. There are some pictures that were used as part of the catechism. Some of these lodges did not change with the times. They had what they had, used it, and their members got older and older. This discussion reminded me of something. Back in the mid-80s, when I worked in the photo industry, I had to deliver some supplies to a place called the Chicago Stereopticon company. They apparently had been in business for many decades, but I trust they were doing different things than they had at the turn of the century. They were located near Union Staion, and I wonder if they are still in business. (It's doubtful.) In the early 1960s, the first time I had to have my eyes examined for glasses, the local optometrist had a box of stereo postcards and a viewer at hand to keep the kids busy while waiting. Time was you could walk into practically any used bookshop and they had tons of the stuff. My, how times have changed. --- Rollei List - Post to rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Subscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'subscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Unsubscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Online, searchable archives are available at //www.freelists.org/archives/rollei_list
