I've had enough experience now to know if I intend to really use the camera
I have purchased on e*ay I have to factor in an overhaul. So if I pick up
the camera for $500 - that's really $650 - $800 plus all the shipping. In
the end though you've got a camera calibrated at factory specs that will
last another 20 years with good care.

Let's face it, if someone found you in a closet where you've been for 30
years or so, you'd need some toning up too as a matter of course before you
were useful! That's the way it is with most of these e*ay beauties.

Have peace of mind, shoot happy, Go for the overhaul!

Unfortunately, it is difficult to know the true condition of a camera
without getting inside it. Many cameras which look cosmetically
wonderful have been poorly repaired, struck/dropped, mishandled, are
out of cal, have internal lens haze, etc etc etc. I like Elias' advise
and also recommend you make your camera a good reliable shooter by
getting it c/l/a by one of the "good guys" we mention on this list
(I'll add the name Paul Ebel if price is a consideration)...
