A few hours ago I received my “new” Rolleiflex SL66, what a camera!.
It looks very good really, 9+ aesthetically. Every function in the
camera body is working right (apparently), I still need to try the
magazine film loading, it looks good anyway. It’s very interesting
that you can focus as close as 16cm from the subject with the regular
lens and regular focusing mechanism and that you can still increase
the magnification using the lens rear as lens front.

It came with the Zeiss Distagon 4/80 lens provided with independent
Compur leaf shutter (the lens is in pristine condition), this shutter
is wide open in the standard position and then the lens regularly
works in conjuction with the camera focal plane shutter as for any
other lens. If you need or you want to use fill- in flash for shutter
speeds faster than 1/30 sec, the lens Compur shutter offers X-M synch
from 1/30 to 1/500, it has a socket for the flash cable; it’s also
interesting the way both shutters work together, the lens shutter has
a comfortable tab to cock it, after to do it the lens shutter stays
wide open, when you release the focal plane shutter release button in
the camera, (you need 1/30 or slower speed for the focal plane
shutter) the Compur first closes when the focal plane shutter opens
and afterward it fires according the selected shutter speed making to
fire the flash too, the leaf shutter stays closed after to fire and it
opens again automatically when the focal plane shutter closes again,
it looks complex to describe but it’s pretty simple in practical use.
I think the lens Compur shutter needs a CLA because it sometimes
closes partially when the focal plane shutter opens, it must close
completely during this phase; except for this detail, the Compur works
fine, I really don’t need to use it and then no problem, I’ll wait for
a general CLA that the camera needn’t yet apparently, I’ll see after
the first roll.

The camera-lens combo (this Distagon has double weight regarding the
Planar 2.8/80) is heavier than a TLR of course, but it can be handled
by hand, I think to use it for close-up photography and since the
camera offers a certain limited capacity for the “Scheimpflug”, I’ll
try to do some special DOF effect.
