Richard,

REPOSITORY!!

Actually, If one reads and understands Ansel Adams and Minor Whites
books on exposure, has and and knows how to use a VI modified Pentax
Spotmeter, they have the problem licked

I feel that I do, but still I bracket!!

As my instructor taught me 65 years ago;-- "In photography, film is the
cheapest thing, time is the dearest" (Charles Hellman--Bronx High School
of Science)

Richard,

Ya gotta write a book. So that more people can benefit from your suppository of knowledge. :-X

Jerry

The problem is its all been written.
I assume the discriptive was not a misspelling:-)
All of this evolves from sensitometry. While the overall subject is a fairly technical one the practical parts are not either complicated or difficult. Some awareness of how the eye interprets images is helpful as how film and paper record and reproduce them. It is difficult to know sometimes how deeply to go into a technical subject. I find that going back to the elements are very helpful to me in understanding but that is not true of every one. I find the quickest way to find holes in my own understanding is to try to teach something, I will fall right into them.
