My last post reminded me that I found a good freeware application for making PDF's from any printable file. When installed it shows up as a printer. Its called PDF Creator and is at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

This can be used for making a PDF from a series of JPEG or TIFF files by printing to it from, for instance, Windows Fax and Image Viewer.
