A very high flare could be caused due to dust too much
between the lens element or perhaps a bit of haze. I
had a 3.5E, when I noticed flare for lighting
situations that the lens (and camera) handled very
good before, I looked through the lens with the
shutter open and locked at B position and diaphragm
wide open against a light source, I could see dust too
much between the lens element; after I sent the camera
for CLA (the lens was cleaned), the excessive flare
disappeared.
BTW the excessive flare also could be caused due to a
damaged lens coating, pasted lens elements separation,
scratches or a light seal tube loose or in bad
condition.-

All the best
Carlos
