There is something reassuring in basing your decisions about the archival 
properties of film on your dads slides from the fifties rather than
or the claims of scientists who have assessed a most probable failure 
mechanism, cranked the exposure bye a factor of one hundred and then said that 
after six months of that, the film should be good for 50 years.  In many cases 
in the history of photographic material's obscure chemical pathways and 
mechanisms have reached out and bitten the guillable punter.
