I have only been on this list for a few days but is this the Bob Shell, 
formerly of Shutterbug fame, who left probably because of the creeping digital 
camera silliness, which is mostly about computers and programs, and which has 
by now pretty much destroyed the magazine??

  Different TAG.  The TAG that sold Alpa was a US company, The Alpa 
  Group.  I still have some of their literature in my Alpa file.  I don't 
  remember the name of the man from Berkey who started it, but I remember 
  that after the bankruptcy he was universally referred to as "that SOB".
