My baby-grey had problems with two thick spools and I use and re-use old metal take-up spool to relief the gears. This worked fine on my Baby.

The plastic spools are larger by 1mm outside - this is due to the minimum
thickness for moulding plastic to keep it stable and to fill the mould.
Because the film stock size is fixed, they have to increase the size on the
outside. Because the plastic spools are a tight fit, it can lock the camera
but it puts excessive strain on the winding mechanism anyway, causing missed
stops and irregular frame spacing.

I machine 0.5mm from each side of the plastic spools on my lathe. The
processing lab returns the spool and backing paper.
