The standard lens for the Sl66 is the Zeiss Planar 2,8/80; an additional
standard lens is the Zeiss Distagon 4/80. This Distagon has an extra Compur
leaf shutter for flash sync to use shutter speeds faster than the standard
1/30 for the regular focal plane shutter; the leaf shutter required a WA
retrofocus design despite the standard 80 mm FL to obtain room for the
Compur., thus the Distagon 4/80 is bulkier, heavier and slower than the
Planar 2,8/80, this Planar is also sharper at the image edge (in theory)
than the 4/80, by design.
I had no option when I bought the SL66, it came with the Distagon 4/80, the
previous owner used it for studio fashion photography and portraits; I had
preferred a Planar if I could choose it, however it was not the situation.
But I learned some Distagon 4/80 virtues to compensate its apparent
drawbacks; beyond the additional leaf shutter, it has another advantage I
appreciate to take some photographs: a _wider DOF at f 32 than the Planar
at f 22_ If we keep in mind a 0.045mm CoC, the hyperfocal distance for the
Distagon 4/80 is 4.52 meters (14.8 feet) and it`s 6.37m (20.9 ft) for the
Planar at f22; it means a landscape will be sharp from 2.3m to infinity
with the Distagon at f 32 (7.4 ft to infinity) and it will be 3.2m to
infinity (10.5 ft) with the Planar at f22, the difference is almost 1 meter
(3.1 ft), it can be significant for composition with subjects in the
foreground close to the camera,
It could be the situation for this image taken with the Distagon 4/80 at
f32, perhaps the foreground would be less sharp at f22:

I think it was worth it to send the SL66 to Germany for the second time
after the damage it suffered on the return trip after its first repair; the
camera is working very well as a whole.
Last week I took some photographs with the SL66 and Ilford Delta 100 film;
I could take several of these photographs with a TLR too, but I had loaded
the heavy SLR; it's a camera to use hand-held if you find a comfortable way
to hold it firmly, I think I found it.
