In the Leica area when one talks about how a lens went from 6 elements to 5
there is a faction which says it was to save money as the company had gone
down the tubes when Ernst Leitz and family lost control. But they'll just
say it was to save money they wont bring in their agenda.
The other faction says that its not the more the merrier with lens design
elements and a five element lens can be a better design then a 6 element
lens. They found a way to make it better with one less element. Which
strikes me as extremely obvious. But these die hard guys wont budge. If it
says Leica on it its not a Leica. It has to say Leitz to be a Leica.
Rollei didn't have those agenda issues that I can think of or Zeiss. But
some of it applies.
People think more is more.
