I read about it. Several years before the wall came down, Dad tried to
go home, to get some family papers out of a bank, and was detained by
Vopos or Stasi (does it matter?), called "yankee spy" aand deported.
I attended a workshop at American Anthropological assn. just after the
wall fell (Modrow has my heartfelt thanks) about opportunities to study.
I thought maybe folks would compare e and w.... but no. Sometimes
reality is an obscene parody of sense. As I wrote in THE COLOR OF HIS
COAT, it was a monotonous parade of droners crying crockodile tears about
how the East would 'never again know the joys of Socialism"
I blasted them (I was the only mauerspringer in the room) and then left
before I puked...
Hey -- Communism is garbage! And, it makes for poor cameras too.
