I also struggle at times with the Graflex rollfilm backs. The best way
to get the new roll of film in its spot is to depress the spring-loaded
holder *all the way down* and angle-in your new roll of film.
I would recommend downloading the instructions for the holder -- they
helped me: http://members.lycos.co.uk/jolommencam/roll/
