Jim, I concur that the product is, indeed,
butt-ugly. When you posted that many hours back,
I started to remark that Carlos would spring to
the defense of the product. And so he did.
But, Carlos, Jim is correct. It really is
ugly. Bear in mind that Jim knows MF SLR systems
-- he owns the Hasselblad List and uses the SL66
system when his Hasselblads die, which they seem
to do all the time. <he grins> And Jim is a Tea
Party guy, and I own a photograph proving this --
he REALLY is not as ugly as some of his friends have suggested!
Me? I have never attended a Tea Party event of
any sort, as I am now required to be politically
neutral while retaining my right to free speech,
and you figure it out. I have three Hasselblad
cameras and a bunch of lenses, and am negotiating
to buy more, while I also own a donkeysload of
Rolleiflex gear. Brand loyalty? Well, I have
owned and sold an SL66, as I found it large and
cumbersome. And despite the longtime urgings of
Bob Shell, I never got into the 600x system. So,
I have a lot of Rollieflex TLR and some
miniature-format gear and three Ha$$elblads, including the incomparable SWC.
But, then, I wrote a book on non-Leitz LTM lenses
(I DID invent the term, by the way!) and
co-authored one on Zeiss Ikon, just to make you
silly folks understand that I am not a Rolleiflex
monomaniac. Someday, I would like to have the
chance to do a really solid one-volume history of
Rolleiflex with Jim and Carlos but I doubt that I
could get them to ever sit quietly in the same
room for very long, albeit Jim is a bit long in
the tooth, as am I. But I still am up for the
fray: I have to be loyal to my Celtic forebears,
after all: we destroyed ourselves, in the end, by in-fighting.
