I have used the non HFT 5.6/500 it is a very good lens. I find using the
lens shade really controls flare. I have also used the 2x converter with
this lens with great results.
Rollei supplied a yellow 95m/m filter which I usually use when shooting B&W
landscapes.
It did an excellent job with Agfa RSXII film used for a shoot of dragsters
at NHRA meet at Infinion Raceway. The transparencies were really sharp, and
the color saturation excellent.
 I also have 650m/m f 6.3 Century Tele-Athenar II with a converting element
in the rear lens mount to cover 6X6 which works out to 750m/m; it does not
quite cover the full frame; but with the 2X converter it does. The lens
originally was designed for 35m/m. Its resolution was measured at 100 lines/
m.m. It is also very good but not maybe as good as the 500m/m Ziess lens.
The Century Lens is very light at 3lbs. I used it for two days shooting
aerial acrobatic planes at the Reno air show. I was amazed with its
performance.

According "The frugal photographer" page, it is safest to assume a
film should be used within one year of being removed from a freezer. I
have used expired RSXII slide film; I bought it already expired from
my regular provider but they assured me the film was refrigerated all
the time, I also kept the rolls refrigerated - not in the freezer- and
used them about four years after the expiry date, I did not perceive
differences regarding results between the same films used before the
expiry date and after the expiry date, anyway I don't use expired film
if I'm not sure it was kept refrigerated or frozen from the expiry
date or before it, the Plus X was an exception.

The SL 66 page says HFT is less important with lenses from 80mm to
1000mm because they have a few elements in comparison with wide angle
lenses, HFT is very useful for the WA lenses with several elements,
the original dual layer Zeiss coating already protected very well the
lenses against flare, but HFT is an improvemet anyway, you could need
it in some rare situation with the 5,6/500mm.
A multicoated UV filter does not convert a non HFT lens into a HFT
lens, this filter does not compensate this fact, after the light
crossed the filter it still needs to cross the lens and the lens is
not multicoated.
