Talking about the 3,5F first model exposure setting mechanism, it was
someway similar regarding the EV mechanism first version for the 3,5B or MX
from 1954, however they have differences and they are not the same exactly.
This 3,5F first model has the f stop wheel and the shutter speeds wheel
coupled between them permanently and they are coupled with the light meter
follow-up pointer via the Differential Synchro Compur 00 dedicated gears.
The f stops wheel is called the "measuring wheel", and the shutter speeds
wheel is called "selecting wheel". The "measuring wheel" has the tab to
lock it and the "selecting wheel" does not have this tab and it does not
have the EV scale and the needle to indicate them; the lack of the later
marks a difference regarding other models with EVS and the tab for the f
stops wheel too.
This way you can select the right exposure via the f stop wheel - the
"measuring wheel"- pressing the tab and turning the wheel till the
follow-up pointer and the indicator needle in the light meter window
coincide; the shutter speeds wheel automatically turn in conjunction with
the f stop wheel and you needn't to adjust the speed for the shot; this
operation fixes the EV and you can also select a different shutter speed
via the "selecting wheel" - the shutter speeds wheel- and the f stop will
change automatically, keeping the follow-up pointer aligned with the light
meter indicator needle. Since the tab pressing unlocks and disangage the f
stop or "measuring wheel", I guess that if you press the tab while turning
the "selecting wheel" (shutter speeds wheel) , the shutter speed will
change without to change the f stop, allowing under exposures and
overexposures; this way the system becomes similar to the EVS first
version, where you need to hold the f stops wheel with your hand while
turning the shutter speeds wheel to disangage the cross-coupled wheels. The
EVS second version allows to disangage the wheels whilst pressing the
central button in the f stop wheel and the third and final version allows
to disangage the EVS permanently changing the button position in the f stop
wheel.
The 3,5F first version has no means to disangage the EVS permanently.
Perhaps the tab working in conjunction with the f stop is an additional
charge for the gears and pieces to select the f stop causing mechanism
wear; it happened with my 2,8C tabs for the shutter speeds and f stops
wheels, it was necessary to replace some pieces there, the wheels started
to slip when I wanted to change the settings. I think these were the main
reasons Rollei quickly abandoned the EVS for the 3,5F.
