Well, from my perspective I started seeing digital as viable for
prints up to A4 ish in 2001.
I am an amateur, but working in the car racing business I see and
know well many sports pros, some of whom specialise in motor racing,
some all sports. A significant number of them started to go digital
with the advent of the Nikon D1 and Canon EOS 1D at the end of 2001.
The changeover was rapid, not least because of the cost saving. One
of the first guys to change was the one who put me right on costs.
He told me that the camera paid for itself in less than 6 months in
film cost savings. I was surprised because digital cameras were
pretty dear then.
The last of the photographers I know well changed to digital in
2007. He was/is a Velvia fanatic, and hung on for several years
after everybody else!
I am not knowledgeable enough about the Rolleiflex business to make
any general comment. I last used my 6008i seriously (rather than a
bit of fun) in 2005.
Just my experience, to perhaps help you build a general picture.
