When you say that the film has a yellow cast, are you referring to
variations in the base coat? Because otherwise, scanning is a factor. Did
you scan each negative using the same exact settings, or does your scanner
determine color, exposure, etc. automatically?
If your scanner is set on an auto mode, it is reading the overall scene and
determining overall color based on what it sees. So if there is something
with a color cast in your image, which takes up a large area, such as a
large blue painting, the scanner will add yellow because it thinks there is
too much blue.
And then there are also the effects of artificial light, which someone else
mentioned.

In the 90's I always used Fujifilm or Agfacolor and I never liked the
gaudy, unnatural colours of Kodak Gold, but as far as I remember, Kodak
Gold was a daylight balanced film. This means correction filters were
required for pictures taken under tungsten or florescent lights. Apparently
the photographer didn't do it. You can try to correct it now in
post-production, but in the worst case-scenario, if the color shift is too
big to correct using your software, you can convert these pictures to B@W.

I am wondering if others have seen this issue and have some insight into
it. I have scanned some old family negatives. They are on Kodak gold
film. I estimate the they are from the early 1990s. I don't know what
developing they had but would expect the local photo place would have been
used. Some films show a strong yellow cast across the whole frame, like a
medium yellow filter was used. The odd thing is some frames on the same
film are completely good. Other films on the same type of film stored
together with the damaged film are fine. Wilhelm's book states that Kodak
Gold from that period tends to yellow, but this does not look like typical
dye fading in that the whole frame is equally yellowed. So does anyone
know what is happening here?
