The average quality of Nikon lenses in the early 1950s, vs. Leitz or
anyone else was influenced by their quality control. I have read
stories of visitors to the Nikon plant seeing whole barrels of
discarded lenses... each lens, after being made, was tested, and the
ones that didn't make the grade were thrown into the trash.
