I received an email from Ed Meyers saying that my info and John's info
about the quick charger are the info he needed exactly. I comment it
because it could be useful for other members.-

All the best

To add to Carlos' information below; my SL2000/3003 'Charger L' has a
red and a green light (as with the SLX/6000 chargers). When just
connected to the power supply, no indicators illuminate. When the
battery pack is attached, both lights should light up. There is a heat
sensor within the two 'springy silver bits' on top of the charger which
are moulded to make contact with the cells in the battery pack and
monitor temperature. When the temperature rises sufficiently, the high
charge rate is cut, the red light goes out and the green light signifies
trickle charge. I have been told by a Rollei repairman that the lamp
bulbs are part of the charging circuitry, acting as resistors, so should
be replaced with the correct type (marked on the circuit board.

It does appear to charge even if the red light does not illuminate, if
the bulb has blown (which is fairly often). :-(

I find the charging of my 3003 packs to be a bit 'hit & miss' due to the
nature of NiCds (one cell in the pack may have 'dropped out' but the
lamps still illuminate) and the relative short life of the lamps. I
found the slow charger, which was supplied with the camera, annoyingly,
had no indicators at all, so I was even less reliant on that.
On the up side, the camera is fantastic. One way round this is to
purchase an empty battery holder and put individual cells in it which
can be charged in a standard AA charger and inserted when fully charged.
Do not use standard AA disposable batteries, which have a 1.5v output
(total 7.5v), because this will blow the 6v camera circuits. I assume
this is why the battery holder was withdrawn because users kept
'blowing' their cameras.

John

Hello Ed:
The info I have about this quick charger is that it
charges 70% within 1 hour and 3 hours the full cycle. I have a similar
quick charger for my wife's digital camera, when the charger starts to
charge the batteries Nicd or Ni-Mh, both lights green and red are "On"
indicating the quick charge is working, when the quick charge is
complete, the green light becomes "off" and the red light "on"
indicates the charger is working for the slow charge mode.
I suspect the Rollei charger works similar, the first hour both red and
green lights are "On" indicating the quick charge is working, after the
first hour one of the two lights becomes "off" indicating the slow
charge mode is working, and then after to complete three hours (one for
the quick charge and two for the slow charge) the cycle is complete and
it would be necessary to disconnect the charger.
Anyway if the Rollei quick charger works different regarding my quick
charger, I'm waiting for the next two weeks the Rollei Report III
reviewed edition, this book has the info about this charger.

Best regards
Carlos
