I happened to be in my favorite used CD store over in Berkeley (CA) this
afternoon and noticed a copy of Virgil Fox's Power Organ concert
performed on the touring Rodgers Organ. It was only $1.00, so I bought
it and listened to it in the car as I traveled home. I enjoyed Virgil's
comments as much as I did the first time nearly 30 years ago. What a
character!
The most amazing thing was to hear the difference in the organ sounds! I
know that I often take for granted the really great quality of the
sampled organs of today including the Rodgers. We just expect them to
sound like pipe organs and for the most part - they do! This Virgil Fox
recording proves just how far the electronic organ has come. The pipe
organ purest of the 1970's had a legitimate argument but not any more!
Way to go Rodgers!
