Just to be clear on the Tonal Revolution upgrade....
This ONLY applies to 5x9 models (Classic & Artist). Rodgers did a one-time
build of the kits needed to do the upgrade. Although the software (on the
USB stick) could be used repeatedly on any unit of the same model, there
are many stop name changes that involve changing the stop tabs or draw knob
faces, plus some nomenclature changes on couplers to change from the Roman
numeral manual designations to American terminology (Great, Swell, etc.).
The kit of tabs and draw knob faces is specific to the model being
upgraded, and of course one kit can update only one console. There are a
finite number of pre-TR 5x9 organs (any 5x9 manufactured prior to Jan
2016). Dealers were given the opportunity to request as many of the
various kits as needed to upgrade their installed base of 5x9 organs. So
if a dealer did not request kits for all 5x9 organs they had installed,
there will be fewer kits available than there are organs that could
potentially be updated. (Note: not to worry, tabs and draw knob faces are
available from Syndyne if you can't get your hands on an original TR
upgrade kit).
This is a very worthwhile update--in addition to changing some stops/pipe
samples, it upgrades the sound quality to the Infinity class level. I did
an experiment with the first Artist 599-TR that I got in early 2016,
configured for 16-channel audio playing side-by-side with an Infinity 361
in my showroom--and the 599 did sound as good as the Infinity....a little
smaller of course...but as good.
Keep in mind that the organ must be revoiced and all the audio settings
must be reconfigured following the update, and you will lose all you
combinations. The update essentially turns it into a "new" organ with a
different specification, so you start over. But I recommend doing it.
