This list response from such a highly regarded, and only recently retired Rodgers engineer as George, prompted me to contact him direct to try to understand why he was so strong about the RSS-303a. I have an Alesis unit, and thought that reverb, was reverb, was reverb and who really cared! That conversation and emails, convinced me to obtain an RSS unit to try. All, that I can say, is that, when set up judiciously (i.e. if you want an unrealistic reverb/echo box, don't purchase this unit), and without any compromises in speaker complement (i.e. you do need the subs), this device adds a level of realism to a Century/340 which is quite incredible. But be prepared for another 4 sets of speakers with complete bass extension plus amplifiers and mixer which will create a real estate issue in themselves. But the mix which results! Even on very low reverb and small room settings, made me realise that COSM space modeling is another world to that of any reverb unit. Of course, if you want to recreate a Fox theatre it will do that as well! Be aware that Roland advise that they have dropped this product - how many add-on opportunities can there be? Obviously not enough. So, the units out there now, are all that there are, or ever will be as add ons. I understand that new Rodgers have the RSS as standard? Whether this included device is as effective as the 303a I doubt. Maybe they have only included a cut down version to compete with Allen's less ambitious (but more market realistic) 'virtual acoustics'. Maybe others on the list can advise? But, if you want the ultimate in realism, try an RSS303a, QUICKLY!
