True story: it was an act of adolescent rebellion against my mother's
taste for me to like religious music composed after Mendelssohn (or
organs with more than one division under expression), so there is at
least one mom out there who would want to be counted differently on this
one.

If you haven't done so already, so a quick survey of your congregation's
favorite hymns, especially the mothers' favorites. Sing them, play them
as
service music, etc. Also the Shubert and/or Bach-Gounod Ave Maria.
Don't
forget golden oldies that may not be in your current hymnal, like "In
the
Garden," "Little Brown Church in the Wildwood," "Whispering Hope,"
"Bringing in the Sheaves," etc. My mother, and her mother before her,
were
pianists at a small country church...couldn't afford an organ...they
were
young women then...but until the day she died, Mom would sneak over to
the
piano at our house, when she thought no one was around to look or
listen...and play "In My Heart There Rings A Melody" and "Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus, Sweetest Name I Know"... 'nuff said.
