Interesting question Noel. Since you asked, here's my opinion...
I think controversy can be constructive and interesting, and by definition
involves matters of opinion. Where there are opinions, there will be
disagreement--sometimes it's interesting and a good discussion will ensue.
(Side note and case in point: the current TAO cover showing a digital organ
has certainly provoked a watershed of disagreement--on Facebook and other
forums--that got quite vitriolic, and very denigrating to the digital
organs that we admire. That's OK--and the natural consequence is that I now
see certain individuals as complete fools with rather bad attitudes!).
Rumors, however, are speculative and what is true vs. untrue cannot be
known at the moment. If this forum is going to be a credible and useful
source of information for Rodgers users, speculative information must be
filtered out, simply because this is a "users" group--none of the members
can speak officially or authoritatively for Rodgers.
Furthermore, any Rodgers employees who participate on this list are not
going to make statements or provide information that is not already
publicly available--you can't expect Rodgers to use this forum for "rumor
control."
There are plenty of other sources for speculative information for those so
inclined--this list will be more respected and useful if it is not one of
them. Moderating (filtering) the postings to eliminate stuff that crosses
the line is the right approach IMO. Let's be honest: there some people in
the organ world who make a career of spreading FUD....usually for
competitive purposes. The Rodgers User Group list should not be one of
their outlets.
