Hi Noel, This methods works! It is functional, provides reinforcement, and confidence. For several years, I have encouraged college students to take one small ide= a (motive, progression, etc.) and make it their own forever by playing it in every key. It builds coordination between the analytic memory, ear, and hands (and feet). Then the idea can become part of improvisation upon demand. =20 I wish someone would have made me do it when I was a child. My children ar= e doing it. They think it is just a game--and it is! Practicing is "playing", isn't it? --=20 Jeffrey T.
