Parents that don’t encourage their children to build stuff, and I mean all the
time, are denying their children of one of life’s greatest pleasures.
And, in the U.S. we should be trying a lot harder to get girls building stuff.
To not do that is truly stupid.
When kids (now in their mid-20’s) come up to me, they don’t thank me for things
I have said (the great words of wisdom, LOL). They thank me for things like
being able to use tubes, balsa wood and other supplies, and using power tools.
I hear about the flights and crashes and how good of a time they had. Yeah,
kid’s have a natural desire to build things. Sorry, but things like iPhones
are killing that desire.
OMG, sometimes it’s difficult not jumping back in…

Is it the sign of a poorly managed company that has overextended itself, or

Probably a large measure of both. Their press release seems to indicate some
management-level issues, including financing, and the industry (hobby) isn't
doing well at all, either.
I'm as concerned by the problems with Revell/Monogram and Tower Hobbies as I
am with Estes - if they go under, this may be the major domino falling in the
plastic model industry, as well.
