If you want to run a service on a modern machine, that's great. Just won't get any points for it. But I'm sure you would be doing this part out of love. ;) Greg -----Original Message----- From: retrochallenge-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:retrochallenge-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Cory Wiegersma Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 1:39 AM To: retrochallenge@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [retrochallenge] Communications/BBS? Hmm... Would it be a good idea to set up a sort of communication/messageboard/list/bbs server? If necessary, I would be more than happy to task my PowerMac 7300/200 to that. I know that it's not "retro" but it has a decent amount of storage, (3 gigs total, enough for most things retro) and I have fast internet. It already hosts my website, at http://stenoweb.hopto.org/ I can look into getting better AFP/FTP suppport over the /net, as well as a few other things, if anybody is interested. Unfortunately, I don't have a modem pool, but if you have a way to telnet in over the internet, maybe using a newer machine as an assist-machine... Maybe it would be a good idea to have a part of the rules to act as a provision to allow for assist-machines in certain cases. For example, if I ran a BBS off of my computer, you might want to have a newer machine nearby to help you connect an older computer to telnet through that machine. In the case of telnet... since it is only communication/filetransfer, even though it would "technically" be running on the assist machine, I think it should be okay. Like... you'd telnet/ssh/rlogin into the assist machine, or use it via serial console, then you'd telnet into the community server thing. Any thoughts?
