In 2010, we began as the Business & Job Center with a generous grant awarded to
us by The Knight Foundation. After one successful year, the unique program
became an integral part of the Richland Library Services at main and quickly
grew to become an outstanding full service career and workforce development
department for all customers and key stakeholders in the community and serves
as a model for other libraries throughout the United States.
In 2019, nearly 11,000 staff-assisted transactions including, but not limited
to, resume and cover letter assistance, interview practice, and job-search
assistance.

[cid:image011.png@01D648A8.65F46770]Richland Library's
Entrepreneur-in-Residence program began in February 2019 as a collaboration
with local entrepreneurs to support an innovative business ecosystem. The EiRs
support, mentor, and educate entrepreneurs through one-on-one small business
coaching and specialized public programming. Our goal is to sustain the
development and growth of future entrepreneurs in the region.
Our three Entrepreneurs-in-Residence to date have offered programs on financing
your small business, the entrepreneurial mindset, the Lean Canvas business
plan, and many more. The one-on-one coaching allows our customers to ask
specific questions about their business journey and receive personalized
assistance.
As we adjust during the pandemic, we have moved our appointments and
programming to our virtual platforms, to include Facebook Live events and Zoom.
The library has learned to pilot and pivot our programs and services, just like
our small business owners, with innovative solutions to meet our customers
here they are. One example is the curbside pick-up concept, used by our small
businesses and libraries across the nation.
Through the Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, we have realized some of the
most valuable resources for a small business owner come through mentorship and
networking. It's important to reach out in your business journey and your local
public library may just be the Connector for you!
March 2020 - July 2021
American Library Association/Google Libraries Build Business Grant Recipient
Richland Library is one of 13 public library systems selected from across the

identify successful, library-led models to deliver entrepreneurship training
and resources, help them scale with a focus on underrepresented and low-income
entrepreneurs, and create a playbook and peer-to-peer learning network
available to all libraries so these successful models can be replicated across
the country.
March 2020 - Current
