Great idea, Henry! I love the idea of learning more about the symbols at the
teacher center and making them part of the underlying philosophy of the
school. I would go if something like that was set up.

We could follow up with a Mandela or symbol making workshop, using tiles,
mosaics, clay or mixed media materials and then these can become part of the
art on the walls and in the halls of the new school - "crafted" by the
original school designers.

Then as one of the orientation activities for new students and parents, they
could create their own symbol (of key school principles or ideas for the new
school) and these would adorn the walls (put in frames and put up) or in
each grade level classroom. This is a nice unifying and creative activity.

I think most symbols like are universal and public domain. Most aren't
"owned" by anyone. That would be like someone owning the yin-yang or the
cross, etc. I don't think copyright would be an issue for most symbols but
it is easy to find out if it is.
