I have a connection with them both as I know their, ex-wife and wife. In the
past, I've just e-mailed them directly. You might e-mail them and say that I
suggested they might be interested.

Shawgi,

Jim Memmott and Mark Hare are both good, thorough writers. They'd love you.
I'm so glad you are who you are.

I'd be happy to talk with any reporter anyone can put me in touch with. I'm

broadening the discussion among people I know (colleagues and students),
especially by arming them with facts about the negative experience in NYC,
Chicago, and DC. Also, I will be one of two speakers at an upcoming forum
opposing mayoral control. Details forthcoming.

Has anyone been able to speak out on the local news? My friend is a reporter
for Channel 8. Perhaps if there was some sort of meeting, he would be able to
cover it.

A number of college professors have written a letter. It is being vetted.
Hopefully the participation will be robust.

It would have been nice if the D&C picked up on it and ran some investigative
reporting. Maybe they will?

I think there would be a lot of recognition and public notice of a letter or
statement from College Professors and Education Depts coming out against
mayoral control. It would be nice to hear from Principals and Teachers but I
realize that's potentially risky for them.

Don't follow the D.C. schools model

I do not seek to enter into the debate over Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy's
effort to take over Rochester public schools. However, the Rochester Area
Colleges, a consortium of Rochester public and private universities, colleges
and community colleges, which supports the mayoral takeover, has used the
mayoral takeover of Washington, D.C., public schools as a model of success.
This is where I must speak out. Mayoral takeover of Washington, D.C., public
schools has not proven to be highly successful. This group of presidents and
others who support Mayor Duffy's plan do a great disservice to the people of
Rochester if the Washington, D.C., model is used.
