emotions. Enjoy the works of Sappho, Rumi, William Shakespeare, Emily
Dickinson, Federico Garcia Lorca, Mahmoud Darwish, Rainer Maria Rilke,
Adrienne Rich, masters of Haiku and more!Members $10; Public $12

Maurice Wren: Came to poetry through involvement with the mythopoetic end of
the men's movement where he heard for the first time poetry recited by heart
from the heart. He believes that until he heard a poem recited, not read but
recited that he had never heard a poem before that time. He is involved with
the Oral Tradition Salons around the Bay Area and hosts one in Oakland. He
came to the Bay Area 25 years ago from Australia, is the owner and General
Contractor of Wellbuilt Construction and is an avid Argentine Tango Dancer.
He also is part of the annual Bloomsday celebration at the Mechanic's
Institute.Bill Denham: A Southern boy, growing up in the middle of the last
century, Bill Denham, learned to love the soft sounds and rhythms of the
words he heard around him?a love of language that now, decades later, is
evident when he speaks the poems he has taken in, learned by heart. Educated
in the South and at UC Berkeley in the mid-sixties where he received his MA
in English Literature, he rejected a promising academic career after five
years of teaching at Luther College and the University of Hawaii to go back
to the land in the mountains of West Virginia. He is now an accomplished
letterpress printer at Painted Tongue Press in Oakland and a prolific,
unpublished poet, embracing that calling a decade ago?at the turn of the
millennium, after hearing Mary Oliver¹s poem, The Journey.Maya Spector: Maya
is a storyteller, poet, ritualist and retired children¹s librarian. She has
had poems published in several anthologies. More information about her
events and writings can be found atwww.barryandmayaspector.com
<http://www.barryandmayaspector.com/> .Barry Spector: Barry writes about
American history and politics from the perspectives of myth, indigenous
traditions and archetypal psychology. He is the author of Madness At The
Gates Of The City: The Myth Of American Innocence (2010, www.Regent
Press.net). His essays can be found on his websites
(www.barryandmayaspector.com <http://www.barryandmayaspector.com/> and
www.madnessatthegates.com <http://www.madnessatthegates.com/> ). He blogs
atwww.madnessatthegates.posterous.com
<http://www.madnessatthegates.posterous.com/> .

He and his wife Maya have performed in The Great Night of Rumi, Rumi¹s
Caravan and The Great Night of Soul Poetry, regular celebrations of recited
poetry and music, for many years. These events, held in the San Francisco
Bay Area, attract audiences in the hundreds. Although not a poet himself, he
feels that the revival of spoken poetry and storytelling is a key to
cultural renewal. He and Maya also present Oral Traditions Poetry Salons at
their home (the only rule is no reading!) and conduct an annual Day of the
Dead grief ritual in early November. Bay Area residents are encouraged to
email him to get on his mailing list for these events. Barry runs a
furniture moving company, but he would rather move your soul.Doug von Koss:
Doug is the Artistic Director of THE NOAH PROJECT, a men¹s ritual
performance group in the San Francisco bay area. He is a gifted artist,
teacher and performer who presents chanting workshops, poetry performances,
rituals and other festive surprises around the world. He has presented among
other places at the Redwood Men¹s Center and Mendocino Men¹s Conferences in
California, The Minnesota Men¹s Conference, Mentone Men?s Conference in
Alabama, Psychotherapy Networker Conference, Pachamama Global Gathering, The
Mankind Project, Eselan Institute, Omega Institute, Block Island Poetry
Project, and Robert Bly¹s Great Mother Conference. www.dougvonkoss.com
