I have much smaller data volumes, and Recoll works really well
for me too, way better than most other indexers.

Interesting, and I use myself multiple indices, listed in
"$RECOLL_ACTIVE_EXTRA_DBS", but I sort of struggle to see the
point of using SearX for "ease of use", when the Qt Recoll
interface is much more powerful and illustrative. Well, I guess
for simple keyword queries being able to search both local and
remote sources with the same web query is interesting, but
usually I prefer to keep them totally separate. A matter of
taste.
The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be
born. Now is the time of monsters.
