Hi Steve, Thanks for this one. It's a fascinating concept. This is still a private company, so giving them the access they so blithely ask for to my social network makes me a little nervous. I wonder when they come out with their paid version if they will market even to the people who don't choose to install it? And how much access do they have to samples they take from your computer? And what privacy concerns are there? I wish it had a free decent accessible firewall. And none of these products, even the paid ones, seem to do much of anything when it actually comes down to removing the viruses after you get infected. And I really don't want to be notified by two programs every time I get a false positive. I have enough pop-ups as it is. I'm not totally against it. I just think I need more time and information to decide if it would really be worth it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve" <kcpadfoot@xxxxxxxxx> To: <real-eyes@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, April 16, 2010 8:08 PM Subject: [real-eyes] More on Immunet The following program can be downloaded from: https://www.immunet.com/user/new What is Immunet? In brief, Immunet is a new security software company focused on the consumer protection space. We are a young dynamic company committed to tackling the malware/'virus epidemic with fresh thinking and highly effective software. Our approach is driven by a new concept we call Collective Immunity Imagine for a moment that you could leverage the computers of your friends, family and a worldwide global community to harness their collective security. Every time someone in this collective community encounters a threat everyone else in the community gains protection from that same threat in real time. You no longer have to rely on the isolated security of your current AntiVirus vendor. You will be able to help protect your friends and family while being better protected yourself. Collective Immunity™ by Immunet makes this a reality. By providing a fast and light layer of virus detection and linking everyone in a global community we harness a security sum that is far greater than its individual parts. Collective Immunity™ gathers strength daily as the Immunet Community grows and best of all – it’s FREE. Already have AntiVirus? Even better, install Immunet Protect alongside your existing product, and it will make the Immunet community even stronger. Collective Immunity™ by Immunet relies on three key advances to protect you better: Community based protection Cloud Computing Collective Intelligence Protect Your Community With the explosion of social applications like Facebook and Twitter, each of us can now have our very own, ever-expanding social network. This online, social community includes friends, family and business associates that we most often talk to, email, exchange pictures, and share links with. With all of this traffic within each social network, it is no longer enough to protect your own computer alone. You need to protect your social network. By shielding members of your social network from threats, viruses and other malware, you greatly reduce the risk of threats making their way on to your own computer. Immunet Protect is the first security application focused on protecting your community. Using cutting edge technology and leveraging the collective knowledge of the users in the Immunet Cloud, Immunet Protect defends you in real time against thousands of new threats generated every day. With Immunet Protect, you can seamlessly integrate with your contacts. An invitation system lets you automatically invite members of your social network into the Immunet Protect community. You can see the complete list of members in your network and then decide who to invite. Getting your social network protected has never been easier. The Power of Cloud Computing Traditional AntiVirus products rely on the same technologies and processes that they did twenty years ago. The companies behind these products have labs around the world where they gather threats, examine them, and based on certain outcomes, push down large sets of detections to customers. 99% of these detections will never be needed by you. This model worked well when it was designed in the 1980’s but the threat landscape has changed so dramatically in the last 5 years that it bears no resemblance to the world that spurred this strategy. Detection delays in this traditional process average on the order of days, but can take as long as weeks. In the past, threats numbered in the tens or the hundreds and had a lifetime of many months. Today, the number of threats has risen to tens of thousands per day, the majority of which evolve and change rapidly. Today’s AntiVirus vendors fight an uphill battle and struggle to evolve in order to handle this influx of new threats. Immunet Protect overcomes these challenges by using the power of cloud computing. Instead of a top-down, centralized and inefficient approach, Immunet uses a bottoms-up architecture by decentralizing much of this analysis and by moving these detections to the cloud. As a result, you only use the detections that you need. Your computer is always connected to the Immunet Cloud, providing you with real-time AntiVirus protection with a detection set that is always up to date. No more delays, no more updates, and no more bloat. This is the power of cloud computing. Collective Intelligence Given the volume of threats today, it’s proven that no single AntiVirus vendor is able to provide complete protection. Each vendor is faced with a daunting number of threats to contend with, each leveraging teams of analysts to produce thousands of detections every day. In addition, the increasing volume of targeted attacks all but guarantees that one vendor may never see the same threats that have been seen by another; thus further fragmenting protection. Competing vendors have no incentive cooperate and make things better. Immunet Protect provides protection by harnessing the collective wisdom of the security products that you already run, as well as knowledge on the applications installed across our entire user population. Simply put, Immunet Protect collects security judgments on what is, and what is not safe from its community. These aggregated judgments are coalesced in the cloud, and, if they are sound, made available to the rest of the Immunet Community immediately. You no longer have to rely on isolated security labs to find and resolve security threats. With the power of the Collective Immunity™, you can benefit from the eyes and ears of the quickly growing population of the Immunet Community. Don’t wait for other vendors to re-architect their products when you can use Immunet Protect today. page Below is a list of anti-virus programs that Immunet works side by side with. # AVG 8.5 (Free) (Windows XP SP2 / Vista) # AVG 9 Free (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Avast! 2009/2010 Free/Premium 4.8/5.0 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Avira 2009/2010 Personal Free/Premium (Windows XP SP3) # Norton Anti-Virus 2008 (Windows XP SP2) # Norton Anti-Virus 2009 (Windows XP SP2 / Vista) # Norton Internet Security 2008 (Windows XP SP2) # Norton Internet Security 2009 (Windows XP SP2 / Vista) # Norton Internet Security 2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Norton 360 2009 (Windows XP SP2 / Vista) # Norton 360 2010 (Windows XP SP2 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Mcafee Security Center 9.3 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista) # Mcafee Security Center 2009 (Windows XP SP2) # Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Trend AntiVirus 2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Trend AntiVirus + AntiSpyware 2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Trend Virus Buster 2010 Vista (Japanese Marketplace) (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # K7 Total Security 2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Security 2009/2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) # Commodo Internet Security 2009/2010 (Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7) To subscribe or to leave the list, or to set other subscription options, go to www.freelists.org/list/real-eyes To subscribe or to leave the list, or to set other subscription options, go to www.freelists.org/list/real-eyes
