There are many choices for all of the things you say that you are looking for. Could you provide the list with more details so that we might be able to provide you with some usable options? What types of cases are you looking for? You said with a power pack. Do you want this to be part of your case or something separate? With the braille display, what size do you want. They have anywhere from 12 sell to 40 sell. You referenced a power pad, are you referring to a chargeable unit for an iPhone? There are so many choices that with your questions being so open ended you could wind up with a lot of unwanted data. If you are not sure, you might start a thread asking for what types of things people like to use and what works best for them. Also you might do one topic at a time so that the subjects are separated as well. With the keyboard, I did see that you did specify the mini bluetooth, so I can provide you with the info on the one that I own. . Mini blue tooth keyboard info Here are some things that Danny put together about the keyboard that you are asking about. This is just some dialog that has been pasted together over a period of time questions are asked and answered. But if you read through all of what is here, you should have a really good idea of what you will end up with should you buy it. I have heard that some keyboards can be gotten cheaper but I like knowing that this place is selling new ones and so when people ask I can just go and dig up this msg and then you can go and dig up your credit card. This one, I have to say is so easy to use. Once it is pared, you don't have to do anything but turn on the switch and start typing. it takes a second or two to pare, but when I am in an edit box I can tell right away that it is working, because I hear the letters being input into the edit box. Mini Bluetooth Keyboard ordered from the USA Silver or black $34.95 http://www.HIDCountry.com phone: 941-365-1305 My mini BlueTooth keyboard came from the Netherlands. The URL is: www.snelwebshop.nl ***Danny's note, she just bought one of these /got it Aug11, I think, and seems to like it much. It's certainly not a full sized keyboard, more like one of what's described as a thumbs keyboard, although you certainly don't have to use only thumbs on it. It's about half the price of the Apple BT Keyboard, *Which goes for $69&Possibly Change, which is somewhat bigger, /I understand it's about a foot long, and likely better built, but the size of this one seems to be very interesting./It's similar to but not exactly one bought by a fellow she mentions, Andy Lane, who lives in the UK I think, who's talked positively about his, the nomenclature of which I don't remember but likely can find, *Reference Andy's keyboard Andrea said in part, "The one that I ordered is not the exact one, but it could be, I couldn't find one that would ship to the US. So here is the one I got. It looks just like yours. Mini Bluetooth Keyboard Silver Keyboard $34.95 " *Danny's Note,-somewhere on the site, I found the shipping to be around five dollars. The shipper is somewhere in FL, and the link works.) http://www.HIDCountry.com Over the past couple of days, I asked her several questions and her answers are helpful. I'm also sharing some comments she made to the list. ***" It was really cool. I grabbed up the pkg right before leaving to go out to dinner. I didn't know anything about how to do anything on it, except what Andy told us about it. After taking a look at it, I thought it looked exactly like the one he described. I turned on the keyboard with the little switch, (Danny's Explanatory Comment, the next steps she accomplished on the IPhone with VO/Voice Over Enabled.)then I went into settings and then to general then to Bluetooth then to pair device. I pressed the little tiny key right above the number 9 on the keyboard, , the phone told me the 4 digit code to type and once I did that, it was ready to go. I was told that the light turns blue when it is searching, but I could not tell that, and was able to do it independently. I just made sure that I waited until the phone was searching, before I pressed the little key above the nine. I was off and typing like lightening. It has an enter key and even a delete key, it works like backspace. This was great for correcting typos. The first text message was much, faster than the touch keyboard. Andy you did great, it was just as you said. Oh and it came in either silver or black. Now to find the perfect little case to put them both into. LOL ...*Andy Said, "Heyyyyy, that's not fair. I couldn't get a black one to match my phone, I had to get silver :P hehe. I'm so happy you took the plunge and like it. Are you suddenly starting to write more messages and e- mails with it. I can't believe how much that little thing changed the iPhone for me. before I got it, if I had to send a long message I would put it off until I got home to do it on a proper keyboard, now I have it. I reply straight away. Its not like a chore to send a message anymore." *Danny Asks, and Andrea Answers, Approximately what are the size dimensions of your keyboard? About the size of the IPhone. A tiny bit smaller. does it fold up? No it to all flat. Does it have a cover? No but it sure is cute. I thing it would be cool if we could fine a case that would hold the phone and the keyboard together. Like Andy's keyboard the keys are evenly matched squares in each row, not like a regular keyboard. The spacebar is the size of two keys together on the bottom row. So if you locate that spacebar and go up two rows and then out one key you will be placed on the f and j keys. Also the keys are not marked in any way, but I feel if someone wanted to use Highmark or dots of some kind that should be fine. ... 1, what type of battery? Rechargeable with a usb cord. 2, Does it have a numbers row on top or somewhere? Yes it is on the top row. There are no extra keys on the number row. I like this. 1 is the far left keyand the 0 is the far right key. 3, Any Function Keys or Arrow keys, Or Mouse Pad Or Anything else? This keyboard has arrow keys, They are located on the r t y and u keys, from left to right they are left arrow, right arrow, up arrow, and down arrow. We may have to ask Andy, I don't know how we will have to use the arrows. Maybe hit the fn key first? There are two shift keys located in the lower left and right corners of the keyboard. There is an fn, alt, ctrl, delete and enter key. Someone just read me the extra keys once along the very bottom row on the same row as the space bar and the shift keys, I don't really remember their order except for the shifts. 4, where's the on-off switch, key, whatever, and do you have to "re-pair it to the Iphone when turning it back on? It has a little slide switch on the top right edge of the device. also along that same edge is the plug for the usb cable. I have turned it off and didn't have to pair it, but it wasn't off for a very long period of time, maybe ten minutes? . I can't say for sure. I can check tomorrow. Of maybe that would be another good one for Andy. 5, did the seller take PayPal, or did you have to use a credit card? I honestly can't recall. I know it was one of the two. Shipping was really quick though. From what I can tell, they are very reputable. ...I thought I would update you as to whether you have to pare the keyboard to the iPhone. I turned the keyboard off and charged it last night. I forgot about it until just a little bit ago. I didn't change any of the setting on the iPhone at all. I just flipped the switch on the keyboard and I heard a little blip like when hear when we connect to itunes and I started typing and it took off and started typing just fine. ...I don't thing you would have to type with your thumbs. You could lay it on your lap or a table and type. I was doing that and typing with my index and my birdies, and it went fine. ...Well I have only had it a few hours now, but I can tell you that I didn't try to cut down what I was going to send in the few messages that I did send out after receiving this keyboard. I find that when using the on screen keyboard, I try to text only what is totally necessary. Don't get me wrong, the keyboard is usable on the iPhone, I just like this Bluetooth, it is more responsive too. I like this keyboard even better than the one that I had on my vzw smart phone. The keys are bigger and they are even set keys, not off set like a regular keyboard...."Christine Asks, "When you type on the keyboard, does the iPhone respond as if you are typoing on its keyboard: for example, does it say the letter as it is typed, and if you have it set to do so, the words afterwards? Does it still read auto corrections and the like?" ^ Yes, it reads characters and then the word when you hit the space bar. I do not know how yet to use auto correction, but I can hear it bubble when their is an error. The phone acts exactly like it does when you type on it using the on screen keyboard. As far as the iPhone knows, you are typing on the on screen keyboard. Only the text input is done on the Bluetooth, everything else it still done on the touch screen. ...*Ryan Asked, " Is this keyboard sturdy enough to be used on your lap? I'm looking for a rechargeable keyboard to use with my Iphone. I'm using the Bluetooth Apple keyboard right now and I like it, but a rechargeable keyboard would be nice." Sure, It doesn't fold or anything. It would be like laying your phone in landscape on your lap and placing your fingers on it. There is no flex to it at all. Also one other thing I remember is that Andy said that these things have hundreds of hours of stand by time. I bet we don't have to turn them off at all during the day. ...I don't mind answering anything you would like to ask. I am really excited about telling about it. It is really hard to buy something, even when someone tells us about what something might look like, because I might thing it looks different than it really does. The only way we know is to ask a lot of questions. ...Mini Bluetooth Keyboard Silver Keyboard $34.95 http://www.HIDCountry.com questions Regarding the mini bluetooth keyboard, is there a description of the layout of the keyboard that could be posted to the list? Assuming the space bar is toward you, the USB port (used for charging only) is in front of the 3 and the power switch is in front of the 5. The left position (toward the USB port) is power on. The paring button is just above the 8 -- you'll notice a tiny recessed place where you can put a finger nail if you don't bite them. To pair you'd power the keyboard on and go into settings -> general -> bluetooth, and verify that bluetooth is turned on. Remain in that window, and hold down the pair button on the keyboard for a couple seconds. After a few moments the mini keyboard will appear in your Bluetooth settings area. When you double tap, a prompt is presented instructing you to enter a four digit number on the keyboard, followed by the return key. I observed that if I enter control+option+k I hear an announcement such as "control", which verifies that keyboard help is indeed turned on. To have VO recognize that I pressed the left and right arrow keys simultaneously I must lock down the function key (function+return) -- I.E function+a+d does not work. There are 49 keys -- four rows of ten and the fifth row consists of only nine keys because the space bar is double width. the layout is as follows. Note: the shifted states of keys always follow standard convention, hence are not mentioned. Row 1: 1...0 when combined with function key: F+1=F1 ... F+0=F10 Row 2: q-p When combined with function key: F+q=tab F+w=UpArrow (arrow keys are the standard inverted t where a s d form the bottom) F+e=\ F+r=verticalBar F+t=tilda F+y=accent F+u=dash F+i=underline F+o=plusSign F+p= equalSign. row 3: a- semicolon. when combined with function key: F+a=leftarrow F+s=downArrow F+d=RightArrow F+f=leftBrace F+g=rightBrace F+h=leftBracket F+j=RightBracket F+k=apostrophe F+l=doubleQuote Row 4: z ... m , ReturnKey on right below semicolon when combined with function key: F+z=toggle capslock, F+x=Escape, F+ReturnKey=lock down the function key. In this state you need to press function to get the inverse (e.g. while function is locked x sends an escape, where as function+x enters an x character). row 5: leftShift, LeftFunction, option, control, spaceBar (double wide), backSpace, slash, RightFunction and RightShift > If I am not mistaken, Someone said that if you go in on the language rotor > and select a different language, the simples change for typing. No, this doesn't happen. You have to select your keyboard if you want to change it. I keep mine on the Swiss layout which has the Y and the Z switched round, but it lets me get all the French accents. As there are no arrow keys, you have to use letters combined with the function key to do most movement commands. However, function-enter locks the function key on, so it's pretty easy to lock it, switch quick nav on and then you're good to go. A few extra keystrokes then locking and unlocking the function key, but if you want something that portable, it's easy to use. It'll never be as fast as the full size keyboard, so I have one of each, and love them both. I looked it up on the website and I have one question. Does it have the 'bumps' on the 'f' key and 'j' key? I find this to be very helpeful. No unfourtionally there are no markings on any of the keys. But they are made of hard plastic and high mark or touch dots could be placed on the keys that you wish to mark and they would stay. My best regards to you all, Andrea M.
