You should be able to turn Quick Nav on and off by pressing the LEFT-ARROW and
RIGHT-ARROW at the same time.

Are you sure Quick Nav is turned off? In my experience, if Quick Nav is on when
you try to type text, it doesn't work.

I've had a Macbook Pro for a year now, and I've never attended a class on how
to use it--I've taught myself utilizing themyriad of resources available
online. One concept that continues to elude me is the exact science of filling
in a text box. Passwords are a prime example. VoiceOver will say "text field",
yet when you try to enter text into that field, the entry is not accepted--so
you VO-left and VO-right arrow until you locate the actual text box, then
attempt to figure out what method you need to use to enter the text. Thus far
it's been a lot of trial and error.
I've waited quite a long time to ask this question--because I know how
absolutely elementary this concept is. . .but it has become the bane of my
existence when using the Mac, so I need to get a handle on it. I need some tips
on filling in text boxes/text fields.

P.S. I've looked through macfortheblind.com but haven't found anything that
satisfactorily explains the concept of text boxes.
