[real-eyes] Digital recorders?

Can anyone tell me anything about the best digital recorder to buy?
1. Do they come with editing software or will I need to purchase some?
2. A friend on a list I am subscribed to told me about using the Olympus DS50
and that along with using it to record things she needs to remember and as an
MP3 player, she can also use it as a separate unit for Jaws. Any information
about this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
