Nancy, Certainly try Reggie's suggestion but here is something else to check into. Many external USB hardware devices must be properly removed using the "safely remove hardware" utility in the system tray of XP. Look in there to see if XP thinks the drive is still connected and stop the device using that utility to see if will then re-recognize it once again. Unless the external device is hot swappable you should probably use this method of stopping the device all the time. Try it with the drive turned on first and then with it off to see what happens. It might not work but it is worth the shot and it is a safe thing to do. Hi! I got an external drive for Christmas which I have plugged in to my USB port. Everything was going fine until a couple of weeks ago when I had left it on and during the start up process on my PC, I accidentally turned it off. I didn't think that would matter, but now when I turn it on, it will make the usual noise telling me that it is on, but the drive letter itself does not come up in the list in My Computer. So, I can't access it. My Zen Stone player is working fine, and it shows up in My Computer when I plug it into my USB, but my other external drive is not recognized at all. It sure would be a bummer if I lost everything on there. Is there anything I can do about this?
