1. The issue:
The 13x42 layout is apart. New modules are built and attached (I will send
pics later).
The Craft Show at Westchester Commons is the weekend of July 24 and 25.
The challenge:
Get the big layout up and running.
I have met with Tom (for new members, Tom is the chair of our electrical
committee and immediate past president). Tom has a plan to get the wiring
done this week starting Tuesday. At the very least, we will be able to run
the layout in 13x42 configuration......but, what is hoped for is that we
will be able to run in the new expanded 21x42 configuration.......in this
configuration, the yard will be re-attached but will not be wired up yet.
(that will occur in August and will be and done in place).
This means that to put the layout in the new 21x42 configuration I will
make a call for “all hands on deck”. It will take at least 10-12 of us,
preferably more to do the reconfigure.
Once in the 21x42 configuration, the rest of the work can be done in place
and the layout can be used from time to time to run, as long as there isn’t
and interfering track project going on.
All this starts Tuesday AM with the Station team meeting at Great Harvest
at 0800 and the storefront will officially open at 0900.......I will get
there about 0845.
2. The Craft Show...........it will be adjacent to us like the VTC show.
The dates are the weekend of 8/24 and 8/25.
We will have 2 shifts Saturday 10:30-2:30 and 2:30-6
One shift Sunday 11:30-5
Bill Robertson, our Vice President is in charge of this event.
We will be selling raffle tickets at the Craft Show for our Holiday
Raffle. I will make a new Poster.......the last one lasted 3 or 4 years,
and shows it.
Look at your schedules and see how you want to participate. Next week (
likely mid-week) I will call for members who wish to participate in the
event.
3. August........Obviously it depends where we are with the big layout. I
am going to assume that it will be in place. Then, there will be
opportunities to watch wiring in progress and there will be loads of
opportunities for ballasting......the entire 8 track yard needs
re-ballasting.......lots of opportunities to learn and do. I suspect the
scenery issues will carry on into September.
4. Remember, the Chesterfield County Fair is 27th through September 4th.
We’ll be people to run trains.......5-10PM on weeknights and Sat/Sun two
shifts 11-4:30 and 4:30-10PM. The Fair only allows tickets for two people.
More can go, but you will have to pay the entrance fee.
We will be using the 6x11, the 3x7 and the 44x66” raffle layouts there
configured in a U. Do not worry if you are a new member. We will always
have a seasoned person there with you. We will stock the exhibit with
conventional and LionelChief trains, so you do not have to lug trains with
you.
Set up with be Weds 8/25 or Thurs 8/26
Take down is Sat 9/4 at 10PM.......the Fair allows us to enter at 9-9:30PM
for takedown.
5. July 28.......VTC Show in Charlottesville......Tom is taking the 12x15
layout.
For numbers 4&5, Tom will let us know when small layout take down trailer
load days will occur.
6. Once things become a little clearer, we will open for the public at
Westchester Commons.....Likely once in August and twice in September.
In addition, I want to open the place up for members to run (I miss that)>
However, I want to wait till things get a little more settled and we don’t
have a million projects going on at once.
7. Back Room
I am continuing my work on making the back room a place where neither
insects nor rodents will find anything inviting. All cups and condiments
will be in sealed containers. If it is not “single use” it needs to be
gone. Any thing in the refrigerator that has been previously opened will be
disposed of.
The refrigerator is for keeping things cool the day you use them. If food
is opened and unfinished, bring it home or throw it out. Do not store
half-opened drinks in the refrigerator.
The microwave is for heating things up (water for tea, food to eat) not
meal preparation. Remember, we do not have a proper sink for clean up.
My goal is to keep all of you safe while we enjoy the storefront.
8. Tom, Walt and myself will be submitting a manuscript today to OGR
Magazine for the Fall issue highlighting Walt’s Fall scenery. More details
later.
Tom has an article in progress for the Christmas issue.
This is all very exciting.
9. Lastly, I want those of you who are TCA members to look at their
calender for the last week of June 2024. The Eastern Division is co-hosting
the TCA National Convention with the Keystone Division. THe location is the
Marriott at Penn Square in downtown Lancaster PA. It is sure to be a great
event.
