- Great work and thanks to the crew working the Raffle. We raised $180
today.
- I arrived at 11:00 after earlier reports that nothing worked on the big
layout. It was reconfigured for conventional and was operating as such at my
arrival.
- Reminder; please make sure that the power is turned off when you leave.
There is a power strip under the table with a red illuminated switch on the
left. This one switch will allow you to turn on the main portion of the layout.
At this point, I have no reason to presume that power being left on was the
cause of any problems this morning.
- We received a nice donation today. It will need to be inventoried. One
thing I looked at was a nice 2343 F3 Santa Fe A/A set. There are also numerous
tinplate accessories in original boxes, a KW transformer, and a box of track.
- I contacted TINMAN (an OGR Forum Sponsor). Unless there is objection, I
will be boxing/shipping all of our tinplate track to them. They pay $0.50 per
piece.
- Note; we installed a new-out-of-the-box TIU on Monday. Ken and I performed
run checks before we left and the layout was operational.
- I checked the DCS track signal strength. We had solid "10's" all the way
around. That is as good as it gets. Setting up w/o the yard has been a
successful experiment. At the GBGH, I am suggesting that we setup the yard with
dead-rail (no power connected). I would propose that we park the club switcher
on Peter's passing siding w/ buffer cars. When you want to bring a train out,
back the switcher/buffer cars into the yard area and pull your train out onto
the mainline. With the stone bridge setup, I would suggest railing your
locomotives there.
- The WIU is connected and operational. The WIFI password is "mthdcswifi"
(no Caps, no spaces).
- I connected the TIU serial port to the Cab1L command base. I did not
confirm that operation. Rick and I both ran Legacy engines w/o issues.
- Please be advised that any and all shorts resulting from a derailment
degrades the output(s) of the TIU. While a derailment by a grabby child may be
unavoidable, ensuring your engine and rolling stock is properly railed before
applying power is completely in our control. If you need help setting up,
please ask.
- We experienced intermittent power losses on the inner loop. This was
isolated to the metal trailer plug connection where power plugs into the
corner. Jiggle the plug if you experience an outage.
- There are two CAB1Ls out right now. The one labeled #1 goes with the 12x15
layout and needs to be returned upon completion of this display.
- There are two good DCS remotes. Both seem to work fine. The third has tape
holding on the battery cover. This one either needs to be repaired, or disposed
of.
- Keep in mind that there are two other displays in the area also using DCS.
They DO interfer with our operation. One of them hijacked my engine multiple
times.If your horn is randomly blowing, or if your engine goes racing off, it
is probably due to the actions of one of our "friends". I fully expect this to
not be a problem at the GBGH.
See you all Sunday afternoon for tear down. Setup at the GBGH is @ 9:00 AM on
Monday. I dropped off the COI w/ Doug this morning.
