Hi Marcin, udev, not asmlib :-) It's a pity that we need to stop just before the boring part. If we go with VDIs, we should document how to verify if the disks and networking components are ok after plugging them into Vbox, or the installation will fail. My understanding is that we can install all prerequisites and configure ASMLib to make it ready for CRS installation ? Yury is that correct ? regards, Marcin On Sun, Jan 19, 2014 at 12:33 PM, Yury Velikanov <j.velikanovs@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:j.velikanovs@xxxxxxxxx>> wrote: Hi Team, I don't want to hijack the thread just want to through an additional idea. While scripting could speed up the setup it will require some development efforts + portability to other platforms. On the other hand as VBox and OLinux are opened (GNU) products nothing stopping us to create VDI disk with OS pre-installed and RAC setup done. We publish it on the net and pass it to participants via USB (we can do it as those are GNU). The only thing that participants will need to do is to go through VBOX VM hosts setup. This is where VBOX scripts could be handy :) If we combine those two methods the setup (for those who want) could be significantly faster :) NOW WE NEED A VOLUNTEERS who would be willing to configure VM VDI files as close to RAC install as possible (exactly following existing 12c RAC Attack instructions), test the VDI with other volunteer and publish it to public along with instructions how to use it. PS: BTW Bjoern as far as I know *I may be wrong* Windows version of VirtualBox is slightly different. On couple of occasions I didn't find commands available on on other platforms). What do you think about the idea? The subcommands used to control the VMs are the same on all host platforms (as far as I know). Of course, some of the paths (where to put the virtual disks) and device names might be different. This could be solved by making those parts configurable. cheers bjoern -- Marcin Przepiorowski http://oracleprof.blogspot.com -- Marcin Przepiorowski http://oracleprof.blogspot.com
