Not using virtualenv, this seems to work:

$ pythran -E clip.py
$ python3 $(which pythran) clip.cpp

How do I build pythran3?

You just need to pip install it from a python3 env. Note that you still
need to run pythran from python2 to generate the cpp file.

Following sequence works for me:

virtualenv --python=python2 py2
source py2/bin/activate
pip install -U numpy setuptools
pip install pythran
pythran test.py -E # this is the step where python2 is still needed
deactivate

virtualenv --python=python3 py3
source py3/bin/activate
pip install -U numpy setuptools
pip install pythran
pythran test.cpp # this generates the .so file compatible with python3

Still not the best compilation process, but a great step forward :-/
