Hi

If water/long term humidity is an issue then I would *not* recommend MDF (or any particle board) but rather a plywood. Almost any plywood would do. If you were going for a permanent mold I would recommend Baltic Birch plywood but it's a little pricy if you are going to destroy it. It is extremely stable with humidiy changes however. So much so I was using it for clock gears which require a high level of dimensional stability.
